Saturday in the Rain

Today I woke up tweeting! Actually thats a lie, but I am so stoked about my new twitter account that I just cant stop saying words like: tweeting, a tweet, twittering! Boow, here I am in the 21st century. It will be so much easier to stay in touch with you guys as well, like instant messaging, but cooler! So feel free to ask me questions or just a random hi! OHHH, or even better, tweet me pictures of your newest DIY's (yep its true, you can tweet your Instagrams! Its like social media overload).

My brother took my camera up to the cottage this weekend, and there goes the pictures for todays tutorial so we will save it for next week so stay tuned. In the mean time, here is one of my best tips for jewelry making. CLIPBOARDS! You know one of the most annoying things when making jewelry is not having enough arms.. There just aren't enough to hold the ends while working and thats where the clipboard comes in. You can fasten the ends you have tied to the clip board (where you would normally attach the paper) and then if you need more support use pins to pin the thread (ect) to the board.! Works like a charm! Its especially great for bracelets like these.

Why not add some bling to your plaine usedtouseincollege one to get in the right mood?

Have a great weekend! I am resting up for a stressful first day back at work monday, puh!

Summer Bruschetta

Did you try the pasta sauce receipt from this post? Well, you should! Its easy, light and so delish.
The best part of it is the leftovers you can use them to make a lunch Bruschetta.
Toast some bread, add the leftover tomato mix! Serve with some avocado slices and some green tea (normal people might skip the tea since its summer.... but... I just love the stuff too much)

Sister Sunday

Hi everyone!
A has been busy finishing her masters degree (and just got an A on her thesis!!!!! she is a smart one!!), congratulations love! You are the best! She is back here to show you how to make a pair of Rihanna inspires shorts!
Have fun checking it out, I know ill make a pair!
Love K

I LOVE wearing jean shorts, especially high waisted ones. I love them so much I ended up having two pairs that were really similar (opsi) so I thought I do a little DIY transformation on one of them- Rihanna inspired.

What you need:
Spikes, I used approx 50 3/8” spikes on mine
A sharp object (I used a pair of scissors)
And a pair of shorts, or a pair of old jeans that you cut into shorts (another DIY project?)

This is so easy it hardly needs instructions. But what you do is make a small hole with the scissor where you want your spike to be placed on the shorts. As you can se from the picture of the spikes, the spikes are divided into two bits, one screw and one spike. Simply place the little screw in the hole you just made, and screw on the spike!
So easy!
Repeat the process for however many spikes you want on your shorts!

If you put your shorts in the washing machine make sure you use a washing bag as the spikes can fall of. Always have some spare spikes at hand, in case you loose one or two of them.

Good luck!

Overdyed Jean Shorts

Hi everyone! Soooo, my brother (20ish, hipster, currently living in Seattle) got inspired by the blog and decided to DIY. Im pretty impressed, I love the look of the shorts and I can just imagine him over the bucket of bleach! So for all (if theres any) male readers.. Heres a non-jewelry DIY adapted by a guy. Love K

So if you have been to this site a couple of times, you realize that my sister is rather good at making things. She can do knots, she can do tiny details and she can make things that actually resemble something one would think about buying in the store. If you have been following this blog for a while, you might remember her post about the Miansai fishhook bracelets. Well I am the brother who purchased that bracelet, and she is my sister who made one herself. In other words she is talented and I am very, very average.

So what about the rest of us? People who can’t conjure up wonderful bracelets with our bare hands, that’s where I come in. It has been a while since tie dye jeans were first featured on this site, and my sis even made a pair of shorts herself. Now this is a trend that even falls to male legs this summer and brands such as J.Crew has featured overdyed shorts in their collections. Which brings us to the point of this post; what happens when the most useless DIY’er attempts to make tie dye jeans?

Thanks to a drowned memory card on my camera, I don’t have any pictures of the process; however, I followed the instructions that K posted here not long ago, I followed them very carefully actually (my brother merged the this and this DIY), so that’s what I would advise you to do too. The only objection I would have is to make sure you use thick rubber bands, as thinner ones will not cover up the same amount of denim.

So these first pictures are of my jeans when they are whole. At first I didn’t think they looked too bad.... however, since they were not evenly tie dyed and the right leg had gotten a sort of yellowish tint too it. A tad too much Jersey Shore for my taste. (I totally agree with that one!!)

The only way I could salvage these jeans were if I removed that horrible right leg, which of course meant they both had to go… SHORTS!!!

Since I had managed to keep the dyeing lighter on the top half (top tip: take them out early rather than late) there is no yellow tint and these once destined for the trash jeans has become a staple in my summer wardrobe.

DIY, Braid-a-Bracelet

This DIY is the perfect gift for a good friend! Well, I guess most DIY jewelry are really, but I gave this to one of my best friends, so I think you all should do the same ;)

I am still on summer vaca, and im totally experiencing how when you have nothing to do but relax 1. relaxing is hard, its true.. I was not made for relaxing!! It is sort of making me neurotic actually..! 2. its so hard to get yourself to do something!
Not having stuff I really need to be doing, is making me so lazy! Have you ever felt like this?

Anyway, we are braiding ourselves another bracelet! YAY! remember this one? the way we are doing it is sort of the same, but the result is so different!

1. You will need some leather string, ball chain, gold wire, and a scull (or other kind of) bead or button!
2. Cut two pieces of leather so that one is twice the length as the other. Measure the chain to be the same length as the shorter of the two. (The length depends on how many times you want it wrapped around your wrist)
3. Attach the longest leather string to the scull and tie a knot.
4. Use some gold wire to fasten the remaining leather and chain as well.
5. Cut of the excess wire.
6. Braid normally but one of the three pieces will be both a leather string and the gold ball chain.
7. Finish off the braid with a loop that fits tightly around the scull.
8. Fasten everything with gold wire.

Wear it and love it!! :) (and I promisse to try to change my lazy vaca ways)

Seed Bead Bracelets

Yesterday I drove 9 hours with my two brothers and mum to get up North to my Grand Pap's place.
After several detours (adding a few HOURS to our trip... ugh) we are finally here. This weekend we are having a family reunion up here and I am overly excited to see everyone. Aunts and uncles, cousins and their kids and my grand pap, I am pretty sure it will resemble something out of "My big fat Greek wedding" (except the fact that no one is Greek..).

Last time I was up here with my Mum I had a crafting bonanza, and something I made but not yet posted were these seed bead bracelets. They are super easy to make and will look great with anything.

You will need fabric line, seed beads, and if you want to make the lock some cotton string scraps (about 20 cm long). You can tie them on your wrist or make this lock, and if you want to do them with a twist, check this post  out.

Bikini Dye & Get Away

Hi Everyone,
I am just back from a much needed get away to Cyprus. There has been so many changes in my life lately so I was in desperate need of some time out.  Me and a girlfriend booked it on a whim last week and left a few days later. One of the great things about Europe is the short distances between amazing countries AND even better: the cheap airfare to get there. We found a last minute deal and just jumped on the opportunity to spend some time in the sun!

I used my dip dye T a lot, it was perfect as a beach cover-up on the way to the ice cream stand (and trust me, there was a lot of IceCream eating going on). You can find the instructions to make your very own right here.

My Melissa Odabash bikini was a tad sun bleached from last season. I just loved the shape and fit of it, so I decided to give it a dip in the Rid bath that was left after my T test earlier this week.
This is where I had a mini lesson. Note to self if you want to dye something that's not white you need to either 1. Remove the color by bleach, Rit dye color remover ect, or 2. don't except the color on the bottle.
I was lucky though, I adore the eggplantish color my bikini turned out, puh!!

Have fun in the sun! (although I am back to cold Norway)

Homemade Chocolate Sauce

There are few things in life I like better than ice cream. Off the top of my head, the only thing I can think of is chocolate. Creamy, cold vanilla and rich, warm chocolate combines in this dessert, elevated to perfection by the crunchy nuts. YUM!

You need:
200 gr of chocolate with nuts
1.5 dl whipping cream
(You can also use regular chocolate and add chopped hazel nuts to that.)

How to:
Melt the chocolate very gently over a pot of boiling water
Stir in the cream.
Serve warm with the ice cream of your choice.

Half-Moon Mani

I'm am still enjoying the Mediterranean and its beaches here in Cyprus. But I thought I would show you all the mani I did before I left. It is fun and summery and complements any outfit! (if you just adjust the colors, that is.)

How to:
Paint the bottom half of your nail and let it dry completely. This is important, because the stickers you are using later will destroy all your hard work if you are too quick. One way to check this is to lick your nail. Seriously! This will not ruing your mani if the polish is not dry and you can actually taste the difference between wet and dry polish.
Use reinforcement labels (the round stickers you use to protect holes in your papers) to divide your nails in half.
Finish with at least two layers of your second color. Peel of gently before the polish dries.

Dying Passion T-shirt

Ever since my sister brought home a bottle of purple Rit NOTHING has been safe from my dying obsession. I told you here that I was going to share my ombre dip dye ikea foot stools, but I will start by showing you my "tester" which is one of my dying favorites (actually, who am I kidding, I love them all).

I am not a sucker for instructions, I tend to not follow them, sometimes for the better... others... not so much.
Well for this little tester I def didn't, and it turned out fine, but you should prob follow the instructions on your colors to be sure you will get a good result.
I started by adding some salt (I just tossed some in the bucket) with abt 3 liters of really hot water (my T is cotton so it can take warm water. Then I added a bit of Rit, about 1/5th of the bottle.
I dipped the T 2/3rd's up. I just dipped it and didn't leave it in. Then I added some more Rit and dipped the T but not as far up. Keep adding more Rit and dipping less and less of the T. I left the last few inches in the bucket to get the dark color.
Then I rinsed the T in cold water till there water was no longer colored and hung it up to dry (you prob don't have to dry it before washing it, but I just wanted to see what it looked like). Then I washed it in the washer.

No need to waste perfectly good Rit water, ill show you what I used it for later.
