I have recieved some feed-back from readers not quite getting how I made the Wrap bracelet from this post. So for one; I promise to do my best explaining the DIYs more thoroughly, second; here back by popular demand (hahaha): detailed descriptions as to how to make the wrap bracelet.
1. You will need 50 inches of cotton thread (I am using brown), fishing or beading line abt 50 inches, (this is for a bracelet that will wrap 3 times around my wrist (which is small)), one button, beads and as always scissors.
2. Tie the button to the center of the cotton string, then tie the fish line to the button.
Ok, I will admit the start is a bit tricky. Add a bead to the fishing line, take the fishing line around the cotton string, then back through the bead. Tighten the string.
3. As you can see on this picture the line is just coming out from a bead, and OVER the cotton string (lets call this, the left cotton string nr 1)
4. Take the line around string nr 1, and trough an other bead and UNDER string nr 2. Tighten the line.
5. Take the line around string nr 2 and back trough the same bead and tighten.
6. Keep repeating the steps 3. 4. and 5. until you have your desired length.
7. When you are done: make a knot (remember to include the fish line), then make an other knot but make sure there are enough space in between the two so that you can get the button in to lock the bracelet.
I hope this makes it easier ;)
I have the hardest time finding all these bracelet supplies in my craft stores, you should open an etsy and just sell them as kits Katrine!! But if I could find the supplies, your directions are very clear :)

Thank you, I've never made anything like this before. Your tutorial was great, I'm just not sure what to do with the ends - can I just cut them?
ReplyDeleteYeah, after you have tied your knots (step7) you can cut them off. If you want to be sure you can seal the ends with clear nail polish.

I want to make so many of these! They are fab, thanks! Here's my efforts so far http://www.flickr.com/photos/sewumm/7453676442/in/photostream.
DeleteBTW I found it was easier to tape the top and bottom of the bracelet down while I was threading on beads.
Aw, they look great lisa!! I love them!!

I don't get how to finish it off. If you just tie a knot doesn't the fishing line slip off. I don't see it hanging out of the finishing knots. Where did it go??
DeleteNice! Now I'm going to change my pin to this updated version. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGoing to try this...it looks really fun and not overly difficult!
ReplyDeleteits not at all!! Hope you try it! :)

Your instructions were spot on... I had no idea how to start it. Maybe once I get the hang of it it'll go faster. right now I'm pretty slow at it, but having fun,
ReplyDeleteThanks!! :) I tried a bit harder to make the instructions better this time!! :)

Do u know where u can find the cotton thread?? And about what size of beads?
ReplyDeleteHi,
DeleteI think you will be able to buy the cotton string at ex Michael's (http://www.michaels.com/). If not they have different once at amazone for string ex (http://www.amazon.com/Waxed-Cotton-Cord-Meters-Black/dp/B001G2PESY/ref=sr_1_7?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1341007397&sr=1-7&keywords=cotton+string) and for beads maybe something like this ( http://www.amazon.com/Artistic-Metalic-Lampwork-Jewelry-Findings/dp/B006H7TZXI/ref=sr_1_11?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1341007452&sr=1-11&keywords=round+beads ) or this ( http://www.amazon.com/Green-Candy-Round-Beads-Strand/dp/B002UBTN4Q/ref=sr_1_13?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1341007452&sr=1-13&keywords=round+beads)

actually those green once might be too small, but its all depending on how thick you want your bracelet! ;)
Deletehi! how thick is the leather/thread? 1mm? 2mm? How big were your beads? What brand of things did you use/where did you get them?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Hi! What size leather/cord did you use? 1mm? 2mm? What brand? What brand thread were you using? How big are the beads? 4mm? less? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHello ;)
ReplyDeleteFrench instructions on my blog, thank's a lot for this DIY !!
Have a nice week-end !
I just love bracelets and making things. I am very excited about making this bracelet in different colors. The exciting part is that they can be worn casual and business casual or depending on what you use, maybe even for evening wear. Thanks for posting these instructions. You are very creative.
ReplyDeleteThere are several different kinds of thickness for fishing line. Any idea what works best? I don't want to get it so thick it doesn't fit through the holes on the beads. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteActually i used something called magic cord, i think its from beadsmith or something like that.. and it fits through even seed beads, but my advice would be to bring the bead you are using to test it out :)

I've seen directions for this type of bracelet online multiple times, and EVERY time, my eyes cross and I can't follow them! So THANK YOU! Thank you for taking the time to take pics, write this out, and make this really clear. That was very kind of you! The blogging/crafting world owes you :)
ReplyDeleteare you using thread or fine leather (looks like leather in the photos)? I use different sizes of leather for mine and use heavy thread to string the beads onto the leather.
ReplyDeleteFor the 3 wrap bracelet, approx how many beads did it take? Thanks Linda
ReplyDeleteGreat tutorial! Thank you! I found all of the materials at Wal-Mart. I used numbered beads and clipped a little charm on it to use as a nursing bracelet. I also found some necklace fasteners and used that instead of the button.
ReplyDeleteI know it depends on the size of the beads but about how many beads go into each bracelet?
ReplyDeleteYes - about how many beads go into a bracelet. The directions are very clear but looking for the supplies is not that easy. You have to also make sure the hole on the beads are big enough for the fish line.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!! I have made a bunch for Christmas gifts using all kinds of different beads! They can also be used as headbands! Premiere Jewelry has a similar product. I have been wrapping my loop for the button with some of my extra string. I also found I needed to use a lot more of the clear string but guessing that depends on beads used. Thanks so much again! Hoping everyone enjoys their Christmas gifts!

I just made a couple of these with my 10 year old daughter. I took care of starting it off with the button, and then she put all the bead on. She made a few mistakes, but you really can't tell. Thanks for the instructions!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try these bracelets, and use them for a fundraiser! I cant wait to get started :)!
ReplyDeleteCan you say Christmas stocking stuffers?! I'm starting now so I'll have plenty by the holidays. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteGreattutorial thanks for sharing. this tutorial is very useful . Excellent, thank you for that great tutorial.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing. This is awesome.leather cord bracelet,& bead like
Thank you so much for this post...can't wait to try these. I can't ever find nice jewelry that I can wear....I'm allergic to nickel...so anything metal is a problem....your bracelets are perfect! I might add I have tons and tons of seed beads from the '90s that I tried making jewelry with and everything I made looked like crap...I've been holding on to all those beads through 3 house moves and FINALLY now it looks like I'll have a use for them! Thanks again!
